About the Musicians

Samuel Torres | Composer & Percussionist

Samuel Torres is a classically trained musician and composer from Bogotá based in New York since 1998. He has released two highly acclaimed albums with his own ensemble and is considered one of the foremost jazz percussionists of his generation. Torres has played with Latin jazz greats Arturo Sandoval, Tito Puente, Chick Coreaa and Paquito D’ Rivera, plus renowned artists such as Richard Bona, Michael Brecker, Lila Downs, Mike Stern, and Claudio Roditi. Ever exploring and expanding his musical influences, his album Yaoundé drew upon African and Latin folkloric traditions as well as funk and avant-garde jazz.
